President & CEO, FLOW 93.5 FM
Jolly is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Milestone
Radio Inc. In 2000, after 12 years of trying and three applications,
the CRTC awarded him and his team an FM license to operate frequency
in 93.5 in the City of Toronto, making him the first Black person
to receive a radio station licence in Canada. |

A successful entrepreneur and recognized philanthropist, Jolly is highly respected in the Toronto area for his business acumen and community efforts. His name was recently added to the Who's Who of Ontario, the International Who's Who of Professionals and the Who's Who of Canada.
Since 1968, Jolly has been President and principal shareholder of Denham Corporation Ltd. And Tyndall Nursing Home Limited, which owns and operates the Tyndall Nursing Home and the Tyndall Estates Retirement Home in Mississauga, Ontario. He is also the principal shareholder of B.D. Jolly Holdings, which owns real estate properties in the Metropolitan Toronto and Mississauga areas.
A Bachelor of Science graduate of McGill University in Montreal,
Jolly also holds an Ontario High School Teacher's Certificate.
Relevant to his studies, Jolly worked on nutrition research
for the Government of Jamaica and air pollution research for
Metropolitan Toronto. He also taught chemistry and physics at
Forest Hill Collegiate in Toronto for seven years.
From 1982 to 1985 Jolly was publisher of CONTRAST, Toronto's
weekly Black community newspaper and was founder and first president
of the Black Business and Professional Association of Toronto.
Mr. Jolly has received many community awards including:
- 1998 Black Action Defence Committee for Community Service
(for outstanding advocacy in Defence of the Freedoms and
Rights of People of African Origin in Canada)
- 1998 The Ontario Black History Society's Daniel G. Hill
Community Service Award
- 1999 Black History Maker's Award by United Achievers of
Brampton (based on diverse activities and overall achievements.)
- 1998 African Canadian Achievement Award from Pride Newspaper
- Business Award as President of Milestone and Tyndall Group
- 1999 Jamaica National Building Society & The Gleaner Co.
N.A. Inc. Award of Merit for his relentless fight to obtain
a licence to operate Canada's first Black Radio station.
- 1996 Onyx Lions Club Community Service for outstanding
commitment and exemplary service to our community.
- 1996 The Black Business and Professional Association President's
Special Award of Merit
- 2000 Appreciation of Service from Grandravine Special
Hockey Program Special Reggae Award for Summer Beat '84
Jolly has served on the Board of Governors for Toronto's central "Y" and at Surrey Place and the Toronto International Film Festival Group. The community organizations in which he has been active included the Committee for Due Process, the Jamaican Canadian Association, Harriet Tubman Games, Caribana, The Daphne Dacosta Cancer Association, Black Action Defence Committee, Jane Finch Concerned Citizens, Black Inmates Organization and the Cornwall College Old Boys Club of which he is a founding member.
Jolly's interest in tennis has taken him to Wimbledon, the U.S
Open and the French Open. He passionately follows world affairs,
which he considers to be his main hobby.
Jolly is a
proud recipient of the Governor General's Commemorative medal
for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.
Jolly was the recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for community service.
Jolly recieved the Mayor and Council of Markham Black History Award for Outstanding Contribution and Service to Our Community. |
